Since K-Pop has spread, the style of music has changed over the course of time. There are major influences as to why K-Pop sounds the way it does- R&B, Rap, and EDM have all had influences on bands such as Brown Eyes, BIGBANG, and EXO. Western styles impact many artists and bands, especially as English words are encoded into songs. And to support this, many English and European producers continue to look at South Korea for talented groups- and many of the songs produced by foreign producers become huge hits. The hope of this is that the songs will spread and gain popularity in English speaking countries. Each group carries their own unique style- if you look and listen to Girls’ Generation, they carry a sweet or cute aroma, while EXID carries more of a sexy, seductive look. Each group is aimed at specific audiences, whether it be young girls or college age boys, the hope is that word of mouth will benefit the group’s popularity. K-Pop is very special to Korea as most American artists are special to the United States- some artists that are revered in the US would never compare to those like BoA or BTOB in Korea. That’s why it’s so important for Korean artists to connect with not only Korea, but the world- since they want to be the ones to do that. Korean artists are going to follow whatever is hot in music so they can compare with those in “influential” countries.
