K-Pop and The Rest of The World

The spread of K-Pop started from the rise of Korean pride that began in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Korean music and artists started to appear through the Eastern Pacific with the help of companies, such as SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment and JYP Entertainment. SM entertainment helped with the diffusion of K-Pop through the development of some of the first music groups. As K-Pop began to grow, these three main companies strived to keep up with the demand and expectations of K-Pop audience around the world. They accomplished this by incorporating a more western style of music and fashion, which aided in the growing popularity in the genre of music. The spread of K-Pop around the world became more obvious as SM Entertainment developed many professional relationships with foreign songwriters and producers that influenced the lyrics, style, and distribution of music.

Specifically, the type of diffusion that has helped spread K-Pop is Expansion Diffusion, as it has spread outward to new places while remaining strong in its place of origin. As for K-Pops development, South Korea's capital, Seoul, has been the functional region, or the focal point of it's development. There are many push or pull factors to why K-Pop has spread. Some pull factors are the attractiveness of the bands, the style of music, and how bands and artisits are so encouraged to connect with fans personally. Some push factors are that K-Pop artists and bands want to become a world-wide phenomenon, that they want to be able to compete with western artists, and that they want to live up to the expectations of their company, family, and peers.
